Which month is best for a Udawalawe safari?
While Udawalawe is excellent year-round, the best months for a safari are in the dry seasons, from May to September, and then later in January through March.
During these dry stretches, the dense scrub vegetation dies back a bit, which gives much better visibility across the plains. Also, with much less scattered rainwater around, the park’s wildlife, especially large elephant herds and hard-to-spot predators, ends up gathering near the permanent water of the Udawalawe Reservoir. That makes wildlife viewing very consistent, and honestly, it feels incredibly rewarding.
