Which birds nest in dead trees?

In Udawalawe, you can spot pale, dead trees sticking out of the main reservoir. These trees matter a lot for nesting and roosting.

Cormorants, darters, and large eagles use them. The underwater trunks are worn down and break apart slowly, but the sites still work. These spots are quiet and hard to reach for animals that live on land. Snakes, monitor lizards, and mongooses cannot get to them easily. The birds also get clear lines of sight. With no leaves on the branches, raptors can see over the water well. They can check the area from many angles as fish move beneath the surface.
