What wildlife is easiest to photograph in Udawalawe?

The Sri Lankan Asian Elephant is arguably the most straightforward animal to photograph in Udawalawe because of its huge size, very high numbers in the area, and how often it appears out in the open grasslands.

Unlike Leopards or Sloth Bears that require flawless timing and a strong telephoto lens, Udawalawe’s elephants usually graze quietly in full view or bathe close to the path. Also, the park’s plentiful Peafowl, Water Buffaloes, and Crested Serpent Eagles give calm, unmoving “targets” for both amateur phone users and working wildlife photographers.
