What type of vehicle is used for Udawalawe safaris?
Safaris in Udawalawe are done exclusively in specially modified, open-top or open-sided 4×4 safari jeeps that are used for this purpose.
These tough vehicles, often the Toyota Hilux or Mahindra, are engineered with elevated tiered seating in the rear bed so that guests get clear, unblocked 360-degree views for wildlife spotting and photography. Because the park’s interior tracks are deeply rutted, muddy, and uneven, regular saloon cars and low-clearance vehicles are strictly not allowed to enter the reserve.
