What should I know before travelling to Udawalawe from Ella?

Going from Ella to Udawalawe takes around 2.5 hours by car, going downhill along the Wellawaya Road, and you get this really scenic outlook on the land changing as you go.

This path leads out of the cool, misty uplands straight down into the parched dry zone. It is a very busy travel corridor, so taxis and personal chauffeurs are easy to arrange in Ella with your guesthouse. If you leave Ella right after breakfast, you will reach Udawalawe with plenty of time to unwind before the afternoon safari starts.
