What should I expect during the monsoon season in Udawalawe?
From October through January, during the monsoon season, plan for afternoon thunderstorms, waterlogged off-road tracks, and this dramatic switch where the park turns into a rich, vivid green space.
Those heavy rains make the resident elephants spread out a little. Because the smaller waterholes start filling up around the park, they tend to be less bunched near the main reservoir. While the downpours can sometimes delay a safari, the rain also sweeps away the dry season grit, leaving air that feels unbelievably crisp and bringing overcast, stormy skies that landscape photographers really love.
