Is Udawalawe good in May?
May works really well for a visit to Udawalawe, because the dry season is starting up and it makes elephants and other wildlife come closer to the smaller waterholes. As the plants pull back and the green thins out, the ground cover feels less obstructed and you get better sightlines across the scrubland.
Even while the weather turns drier and drier, that gathering near the Udawalawe Reservoir tends to deliver excellent sightings. Photographers often lean toward May, since the daylight can be strong and the light feels direct, yet the skies stay mostly clear. If you’re planning a safari, be sure to pack extra sun gear and drinking water, because the afternoon heat spikes quickly.
