Is Udawalawe good in April?
April is an in-between month in Udawalawe, where the days feel intensely hot, and the first sporadic showers show up during the inter-monsoon period. Even though wildlife viewing stays really strong, the sweltering humidity can still feel a bit annoying for some travellers.
The regular afternoon thunderstorms can, without much warning, turn the dry, dusty roads into sticky, muddy paths. Yet, it also makes for a lovely moment to see the park because the plants start moving from golden brown towards vibrant green. The constant warmth urges elephants closer to the water, so reservoir viewing is particularly likely.
