How many safari routes are available in Udawalawe?

Udawalawe doesn’t run on a system of rigid, strictly numbered, exclusive safari routes. It runs more like an interconnected web of unpaved dirt tracks, so you will notice how things shift with the day.

Jeep drivers shape their own routes on the fly, using real-time animal sightings, weather changes, and crowd management. Most of the tracks wind around the Udawalawe Reservoir, and then they cross through open grasslands in the southern as well as eastern parts of the park. Skilled drivers also share signals and guidance with each other, so they can find herds quickly, and so guests are placed for the best possible views.
