Can I cycle near Udawalawe National Park?

Though cycling is strictly forbidden inside the national park boundaries, you can still enjoy riding around the scenic roads and countryside trails that sit outside Udawalawe.

Several guesthouses and hotels around Udawalawe town offer bicycle rentals, so you can roam through the nearby rural places. Riding along the large Udawalawe Reservoir bund, right outside the park gates, is a well-liked activity. It also gives great sunset views and good chances for bird watching. Be careful, though, because wild elephants sometimes cross the main public roads here.
