Can I bring food into Udawalawe National Park?
Yes, visitors can bring packed meals and snacks into Udawalawe, but giving food to any wild animal is strictly banned and heavily penalised.
Most early morning safaris include a packed breakfast supplied by nearby hotels, and guests generally eat it while the vehicles are parked at the approved reservoir rest area. Everyone must take every food wrapper and any organic waste back out with them; no leftovers should be left behind. Plastic bags are strongly discouraged, since they cause a serious choking danger for scavenging animals.
