Are night safaris available in Udawalawe?

No, you can’t do night safaris inside Udawalawe National Park. The park gates shut at 6:00 PM, and every visitor vehicle has to be out of the area by that time.

The Department of Wildlife Conservation keeps this policy in place across most national parks in Sri Lanka, so human disturbance to nocturnal animals stays low and poaching gets harder. While entering the park and driving around after dark is not allowed, a few eco-lodges in the nearby buffer zones provide a guided night walk, but those activities happen outside the park boundary. That way, people can spot nocturnal species like lorises, owls, and civets without breaking the main rule.
