How many bird species have been recorded in Udawalawe?

Around 184 to 210 different bird species are officially noted in Udawalawe National Park, inside the park boundaries.

People call it a true haven for avian enthusiasts because the habitats are mixed, you know, open water, marshlands, and dry forests. In the field, many visitors see endemic kinds like the Sri Lanka spurfowl and Sri Lanka junglefowl, and also a rather massive selection of birds of prey such as the changeable hawk-eagle and white-bellied sea eagle. Then, during the winter migratory season, from November to March, the bird population climbs again as visiting flocks arrive.
