How far is Udawalawe from Galle?

Udawalawe National Park is about 115 kilometres (71 miles) from Galle; the usual drive is somewhere around 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on traffic.

For most people, the smoother path means going south on the coastline road towards Matara, then taking the A17 and A18 inland. Another approach is to jump onto the Southern Expressway (E01) and ride it all the way to the Mattala exit. This helps you dodge the heavier coastal traffic, but it does add a bit of distance. If you want the less troublesome option, a private taxi hire is recommended; it is also the comfiest. With public buses, connecting between these places often means several exchanges, and that can stretch the journey time by a lot.
