How early should I arrive before an Udawalawe safari?

Try to reach the entrance gate of Udawalawe National Park at least 15 to 30 minutes ahead of your safari slot. If you have a morning safari, getting there by 5:30 AM helps you be among the earliest visitors, once the gates open officially at 6:00 AM.

Getting in early is important because the ticket office can be a bit chaotic, particularly in peak season when there might be long lines at the counter. Also, going at first light improves your odds of seeing active wildlife on the move, before daytime warmth pushes them deeper into the shade.
