At the peak of the dry season, the groups keep to the borders of the Udawalawe Reservoir, since water remains year-round and fresh grass appears on the banks as the water recedes. Once the monsoon rains come in, the elephants spread out more deeply into the park’s dense jungle parts and the nearby wildlife corridors to feed on fresh growth.
