Can I drive my own vehicle inside Udawalawe National Park?

Tourists, in general, are not allowed to drive their rented vehicles inside Udawalawe National Park, and they have to hire an authorised 4WD safari jeep instead.

The Department of Wildlife Conservation regulates park entry heavily to make sure visitors stay safe and to protect the ecosystem as well. Only heavily adjusted 4WD vehicles that match specific ground clearance requirements and safety standards can travel on the rough interior tracks. Even when residents bring their own private 4WD, they are legally required to be accompanied by an official park tracker.
