While babies are legally allowed on Udawalawe safaris, it is generally not advised because the heat is intense, the terrain feels bumpy, and there are no real child safety restraints in those open-top jeeps.

The safari trails are unpaved, very dusty, and the ride can have sudden, jarring moments without much warning. That can be risky for infants who have no real neck control yet. Also, crying or louder noises can cause distress to wildlife, and it can also spoil the whole viewing for the other passengers.
