Are monkeys common in Udawalawe National Park?

Yes, monkeys are pretty abundant around Udawalawe, including the endemic Toque Macaque, along with the Tufted Grey Langur; those are the two main ones people see most of the time. They are usually easily spotted close to wooded pockets of habitat, especially nearer the forest edge and the park entrance area.

The Tufted Grey Langurs mainly live on leaves, and you tend to spot them higher up in the riverine canopy. The Toque Macaques are highly adaptable and omnivorous, so they spend more time on the ground and moving through lower spaces. Visitors should keep any food secured, since macaques around the gates have become accustomed to people, and they can act like opportunistic scavengers.
