Do animals hide during storms?

Most wild animals look for quick shelter when a bad storm hits. They do this to hold on to body warmth and stay out of harm’s way.

Small mammals and reptiles usually slip into burrows. They may hide in rock gaps or thick undergrowth. Larger plant-eaters, like elephants, often face away from the heavy rain. They group close to solid tree edges so gusts hit them less. Birds stay put on branches and hold on tight. They wait in the canopy until the rough weather is over.
