What is a dry-zone ecosystem?

A dry-zone ecosystem is a certain bioclimatic region with a long-lasting dry season, high temperatures and plants that have adapted to live with minimal water. Udawalawe, in Sri Lanka, is a good example of this kind of setting.

Whereas lush rainforests feel layered and thick, the dry zone tends to feature thorny scrub jungle, open grassy plains, and deciduous trees that drop their leaves to conserve moisture when droughts stretch out. This open layout makes it harder for herbivores to linger out of sight, so Udawalawe gives visitors such phenomenal, clear wildlife viewing.
