Is Udawalawe good in January?

January is widely seen as one of the best times to go to Udawalawe, with pleasant weather and incredibly lush, green scenery right after the heavy Maha monsoon rains. The temperatures feel cooler and far more comfortable than the mid-year dry season, when everything seems to get a lot harsher.

Since water is abundant across the park, the wildlife is usually spread out rather than gathered at just one waterhole. This can mean you may need to drive a bit further to catch sight of elephants, but the vivid green backdrop, the lively birdlife, and those clear blue skies make the safari feel spectacular for photography too.
