Is Udawalawe good in August?
Despite the heavy crowds, August is an exceptional time for wildlife watching in Udawalawe. It falls deep in the dry stretch, so the plant life is thin, and the animals end up bunched tightly around the main reservoir.
The parched, cracked ground and the golden grass cover make it very easy to recognise wildlife from a distance. Since rainfall is limited, your safari usually won’t be halted by sudden storms. Still, it is also the dustiest month, so bringing a bandana or a buff to guard your face and camera gear is highly recommended.
