Is Udawalawe safe at night?

Udawalawe is generally very safe at night, as long as you stay inside the confines of your hotel, resort, or guesthouse. Still, walking outside the designated places or near park boundaries after dark is strictly prohibited, and it is highly dangerous due to roaming wild elephants.

A lot of properties sit close to the jungle edge, and it is fairly common for wildlife like snakes and elephants to come strolling near the roads. Always take a tuk-tuk or a taxi to move between restaurants and your accommodation at night. Also carry a flashlight so you can actually watch your step.
