Is Udawalawe good in March?

March is a superb month for an Udawalawe safari; it brings dry weather, clear sightlines and lots of concentrated animal activity. Because of the lack of rain, wildlife ends up congregating in large numbers near the reservoir that keeps getting smaller, and that makes the sightings feel a bit more intense.

It is also a prime time for watching social exchanges between elephant groups, where they bathe together and then drink at the same places. And since it is just ahead of the local April holiday rush, the park tends to be a touch less busy. Still, expect hot, dusty conditions, and make your planning accordingly; bring sun protection, plus dust covers for your camera gear.
