Does Udawalawe have otters?

Yes, Eurasian otters live in the water-related ecosystems, inside and around Udawalawe National Park. Still, they are pretty hard to observe, mostly active at night, and very rarely seen by the typical safari-goers.

These semi-aquatic mammals tend to choose calm riverbanks and quiet margins that remain undisturbed along the Udawalawe Reservoir. There they look for fish, crabs and also frogs. If you really want to spot an otter, then birdwatching or a boat tour near the dam, around dawn or dusk, gives a slightly better opportunity than a noisy, middle-of-the-day jeep safari.
