Which habitats are found inside Udawalawe National Park?

Udawalawe has this mosaic of different places, moving from open savanna grass zones and thorn scrub groves to river-bordering forests, and then into marshlands.

Because of how the land is laid out, you can usually see animals placed there in a pretty clear way:

• Savanna grasslands: where elephant herds graze mostly, and Peafowl roam around.
• Scrub jungle: in which deer can hide well, plus Leopards and Wild Boars also manage to stay concealed.
• Riverine forests: with big Kumbuk trees leading the scene, giving shade, and also carrying monkey groups in their own little routine.
• Wetlands/Reservoir: acting like a centre point for Crocodiles and Water Monitors, plus lots of wading birds feeding along the shallows.
