What is Udawalawe National Park famous for?

Udawalawe National Park is globally known for its very visible, sturdy group of wild Asian elephants, with some of the steadier elephant sightings anywhere on earth.

Compared with other parks that are deeply forested and where wildlife can blend in fast, Udawalawe has open grasslands and scrub-like terrain, so you often get clear sightlines. It is not unusual to watch groups of around 50 elephants, including playful calves, socialising near the reservoir, and that makes it the main place for elephant lovers going through Sri Lanka.
