What is the largest reptile in Udawalawe?

The mugger crocodile is considered the largest reptile living in Udawalawe National Park, and you can often spot it sitting there, basking on the muddy sides along the Udawalawe Reservoir.

These strong apex predators can reach about 4 to 5 metres in length. They share the park’s watery spaces with large water monitors, which are frequently taken for crocodiles by visitors walking by. The mugger crocodile mainly feeds on fish, birds, and smaller animals that wander down to the shoreline to drink, especially during the tough dry season.
