What is the best time to visit Udawalawe National Park?
If you want the optimal time to go to Udawalawe National Park, the dry season from May to September is usually the best bet, because elephant sightings feel more concentrated and you can expect them more often.
Even so, Udawalawe still works well the whole year, since the resident elephant group stays within the park boundaries and does not seasonally wander out. If you prefer those lush green surroundings instead of dry stretches, then going in November or December, right after the monsoon period, gives a greener, scenic route with a thicker, more tangled feel. You also get excellent birdwatching chances during that window, which makes it pleasant in a different way.
