What bird species live in Udawalawe National Park?

Udawalawe is a sanctuary where both native and migratory birds come in, and it is really known for the Sri Lankan junglefowl, Malabar pied hornbills, changeable hawk-eagles, and spot-billed pelicans.

The park has a diverse mix of habitats; scrub jungle is there, and also wide water areas, and because of that, it supports more than 200 avian species. The water attracts lots of waders like painted storks and cormorants, while the open grassy stretches become good hunting spaces for raptors. During migration season, the bird population also swells with arrivals from the Northern Hemisphere, and suddenly the whole park turns into a birder’s paradise, like that is the feeling you get.
